Chapter 1:
The cheers and screams are silenced. The only sounds are the footsteps, echoing throughout the chamber.
“Summoners are you ready? Begin to initiate the connection.”
“The match begins in five minutes.”
“All Summoners have connected.”
“Adjudicator, you may proceed.”
“Everyone ready? Any questions?”
A deep intake of air flows into the lungs. The chamber is pressurizing the atmosphere. The sounds of the forest begin to crawl into the ears. The crystals start to glow as they stream the visuals, sounds, and emotions throughout Runeterra. In the not so far distance, the deadened noise escalates as their favorite champions are gradually appearing on the Summoning Platform.
As the champions appear, energy began to surge from the glowing Nexus to the inhibitors and towers. Following procedures, the announcer introduces the champions and their Summoners, who are preparing the masteries and runes.
“Summoner, are you ready?” asks the red hair woman through the connection, “Do not worry, Summoner. I’ll try to help you adjust. Things will get a lot easier when we begin”
“I appreciate it,” answers the Summoner. The woman is young compared to the many other champions. She is acclaimed as one of the best assassins of Noxus. The assassin relies on her skills rather than mana to deal death upon the enemies. The only imperfection is the deep scar upon her face from her left-side forehead to her cheek.
He redirected his attention towards the arena. The arena is simple enough. Two opposite sides contain the Nexus, the final obstruction of victory for the opposition to destroy. It is defended by two towers. From the Nexus, three lanes branches out. Before the entrance to the actual forest, there lies a tower and an inhibitor for each road. When destroyed, the inhibitor no longer holds the chains of the opposition’s forces. Only the inhibitors are respawnable structures, but it takes quite a bit of time before it is up again. One road flows to the top proportion of the map, a tool given to all Summoners. Another one flows to the bottom, and the last stretches to the middle. All major roads are connected with the opposition’s, except there are smaller paths that enter into the forest. The Serpentine River runs from the top corner to the opposite corner.
Their destination is the middle path as it allows for an assassin’s to escape any ambushes from the river or forest. The distance between one team’s tower and the opposite’s is shorter in the middle as well, so natural overextension is minimalized. Everything is as expected every time.
“I never introduced myself. My name is Tylos,” says the Summoner. The young man is wearing a purple cloak with a hood covering his physical features.
“Good evening, Tylos. You may have already heard of me, but my name is Katarina or known as the Sinister Blade,” responds the assassin.
Tylos chuckles, “I guess they do say looks are deceiving. Your fame and prestigious background precedes you, daughter of General Du Couteau.”
“You seem confident for your first summoning,” smirks the fiery woman.
“Like many others, I know the fires of crossing blades.”
“But not typically a Summoner,” retorts Katarina.
“I guess that does make me an anomaly,” says Tylos as he laughs.
A voice like a mountain erupting begins, “Welcome to the Summoner’s Rift!”
“And so, it begins.”
Tylos begins to analyze their team’s prospect against the other. He believes the team is the more favorable one. Each champion brings his or her own skills into the match, and some counters another. The team captain has chosen well.
To the north, Jax faces Master Yi. Master Yi will not be able to surpass Jax, unless something goes wrong. The roaming champions are

“Katarina, begin to make your way to the River through the jungle. Be on the lookout for the enemy in that brush. We cannot let them surprise us.”
Tylos can communicate with Katarina directly through the connection, but he cannot directly command the others. Each Champion that enters the arena has their own Summoner, who guides them. Through the Summoner, the champions experience enhanced abilities through masteries and runes that are set before the match. The magic the Summoners are complex, hence the reason for years of training. A slight miscalculation may produce some gnarly results.
Thinking about all everything he has done so far before entering the League made Tylos laugh. Katarina becomes uncomfortable and nervous as he continues for a bit of time. There are some psychopathic and unpredictable people who join the League after all. But, Tylos wasn’t insane. He felt happy.
With the utmost ease, he says, “Make your way to the middle.”
Tylos was the first one to leave the Summoning room. Stretching and yawning, he makes his way to lunch.
From across the hall, he hears “A champion has been slain!” The whole crowd goes insane. Ten years ago, the Council was able to duplicate the original Summoner’s Rift, and now, two simultaneous matches can be broadcasted throughout the continent with specially crafted crystals. The Summoner Rift is not the only battleground and construction of new Fields of Justice has progressed greatly in the last year alone.
Glad to be away from the pressure of the arena, he relaxes his mind and body. Clearing his mind removed his awareness of his surroundings, and his footsteps slowed. He never had to deal with anything like what he experienced before the match, and in order to compensate, Tylos became a mindless zombie to reboot.
After dragging his feet for a while, he winds up crashing into figure moving at a desperate pace. An explosion of papers, documents and books flies everywhere. The robed figure was moving so fast that it was enough to send the two falling on their asses.
“I’m so sorry. I wasn’t paying attention. Are you okay?” says Tylos as he stood up and offered his hand. Even though she was the one who shouldn’t been running, he could have avoided her path if he had paid attention.
The hood was covering the face, but it didn’t hide the glowing blonde hair. The person accepts the hand with her hand. Her. It appears to be a woman’s hand, but it was rough to touch and had a certain strength behind it. Tylos pulls the person up easily, which surprised both of them. He didn’t expect her to be so light and hopes he didn’t hurt her wrist.
Tylos was looking at her hand as the hood fell back from the sudden motion. He did not expect it when he looked up. The beauty of the woman was absolutely stunning. Everything about her physical features seems perfect, ears, eyes, mouth, and all. It took him a few seconds to realize he was gripping her hand tightly and examining her intently. And, her hand covering her face in reaction is what made him come back to reality.
“Sorry, let me help you gather your things,” says Tylos avoiding any possible direct eye contact. He wants to run away to the safety of a restaurant and pig out until his embarrassment disappears, but he has his priorities. He begins to pick up the remnants of the explosion.
Without any words to each other, the books and documents started to rebuild to its original state under the gazes of the passersby’s who offered no help.
Tylos tries to avoid prying, but the headlines on the documents couldn’t have been more obvious. “Reginald As … Jax the Gra... amanda Sca…” So, this is the famed Judicator, who has been said to been investigating the disappearance of Reginald Ashram. Half of the papers are newspaper articles from all over the continent, each telling the same story.
She quickly pulled her hood over head as if the light burns her face. The witnesses continue to walk without a glance.
“Thank you, Summoner. It was my fault. I should have been watching where I was going.”
“Well, at least it was me,” chuckles Tylos, “everyone else seems like they would have continued walking.” She was silent on this as if it had happened before.
They got up from the floor. “Be careful, Judicator. I hope you find what you are looking for,” warns Tylos. She says nothing while he walks towards the direction she came. When she turned around, Kayle the Judicator saw that the crowd didn’t envelope him. Instead, he pierced through the stream leaving nothing behind while the darkness shrouds her quickly after she could no longer read the writing on his armband.
Quietly, Tylos closed the door behind him. It made that familiar rush of air sound and the mechanical click of the grandiose door echoed through the dark building. He turned around from the door and stood before the books, the knowledge, and the power of all Runeterra, the Great Library. It is home and always will be for him.
Tylos began walking past the vast, full shelves with his fingers trailing across the binds of knowledge. They have saved him, and he is eternally grateful for everything they did and continually been contributing to his life.
His fingers eventually found the tattered remains of an old friend, and the sense of relief overcame his heart. Time has not been kind to the book, but Tylos did what he could to preserve its life lasting further than anticipated. Runeterra
